Besides being iPhone day, today marks the release of iTunes 7.3. This new version has rectified a small issue I had when they introduced the CoverFlow: podcast support. Now it gracefully glides through my podcast album art as well as all my albums.
I'm watching the stream of the keynote.
Some things I've noticed:
- The new vista search feature is something Apple has had for a few years.
- Shadow copy (similar to OS X Time Machine that's due out in the next Mac Release) is a great idea, and I'm glad it's being included (lame joke poked at Apple).
- Windows Live's Google Earth thing is not a Vista exclusive feature, kinda lame that they use it as an example of what Vista can do.
- Media center looks nicer on Vista. The Sports Lounge feature looks nice, especially the Fantasy Team option.
- Photo Gallery seems very similar to iPhoto. Again, something Apple has had for a long time.
- Fella said download, meant upload.
- Group Shot feature is very cool, if a little gimmicky.
- Dream Scene (Animated Desktops) looks really nice. Something that's been doable (albeit unoffically) in OS X for a good while. I think Windows users will really like it.
- Since this is not a live stream, they really should have cut out the large gap where they can't show the video because of IP Law.
- Windows Home Server seems like overkill for all but the deepest pockets, However, hotswaping storage sounds like a cool plan.
- Postal Service song being used.
- Yay for IPTV on Xbox360. Good call MS. Curious to see what Apple does about that tomorrow.
- Sync for cars sounds nice, if they can deliver on all the options.
- Gates reminds me of Mr. Burns on The Simpsons.
- The Microsoft "Home Of The Future" seems like a pipe dream, and kinda a waste of time. I'm sure in 20 years it'll seem as rediculous as the old Tomorrow land at Disneyland did.
Finally, thanks to a beta version of their next build, I can kiss the klunky "Windows taking over my screen" problem goodbye. The new build includes a great feature called Coherence mode that hides everything but the applications and the start bar. A simple check in the auto-hide box made the start bar disappear and now I'm left with a very visually pleasing way to use the TWO windows apps that are tying me down to the platform for the foreseeable future.
I saw this on Digg a moment ago: a trailer for a new Ninja Turtle movie. It's coming out in march of 2007 and it looked fully CGI, so it's probably been in production for 3 or so years. I hope it can live up to my all time favorite, TMNT 2: The secret of the ooze.
